Hi, my name is Kristin Owen and I am a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and that is what has driven my desire to learn more about nutrition. I’ve tried the fad diets and my weight has gone up and down. It was during my first pregnancy that I realized how important it is to understand the food we consume and how it affects us. I understand the busy lives we have and the need for convenience so let me help you gain back control of your cravings and put you on the right path to fuel your life.

Scott Brown: Dietician

Hi I’m Scott.

I’m a Registered Dietitian who has been studying in the field of nutrition & health for almost 10 years and have been actively training in Crossfit for 4.

My nutrition work history includes retail, gyms and on college campuses. I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition from California State University, Sacramento and my Master’s of Science in Nutrition from Southern Illinois University.

I am passionate about health, science and nutrition communication. I believe that there is no one size fits all approach to getting healthy, losing weight or changing your life. My approach to nutrition is simple, find what works best for the individual long-term by focusing on health first.

I’m excited to be a part of the team at Elite Boxing and Crossfit.

Harley Maughan: Nutrition Coach

Hello, my name is Harley Maughan, your average small-town Nevada girl who loves all things fitness and nutrition. Growing up in Rural Nevada, I always played sports and when I wasn’t at practice or away at a game or tournament, I was outside. While I enjoyed playing on team sports, there wasn’t ever a real passion in the sports I played, well besides softball. I was small, but I sure could hit the ball hard and run fast! But while I always enjoyed the sports I played with my teammates; I never really found my place or believed I was a good athlete. Growing up, my dad had a weight room where he had all this gym equipment and my mom kept all her fitness magazines like Oxygen and Women’s Health. In those magazines were badass girls who were big in the fitness world, and girls I grew to strive to be like and look like one day. That is where my world of fitness really began. I began working out in the home gym after school with my dad and paying more attention to my nutrition.

While I thought I was eating healthy, I was actually undereating and depriving myself from all the fun treats and junk food all my friends ate while we were away on sports trips, which created a not so healthy mindset on food. Although looking back, my nutrition wasn’t the healthiest, I did discover my dedication to sticking to “stricter” diets and eating healthier foods.

In 2012, I graduated and moved to Reno, Nevada where I attended the University of Nevada. Before attending UNR, they required you participate in the freshman orientation where they take you around campus, make sure you are familiar with different buildings and give you a quick run down of how everything works. While I thought the campus was beautiful, the one tour I remember vividly was walking through the campus fitness center. Growing up in Tonopah, working out either at my home gym or at the school’s gym, you can imagine how magical this place looked to me. It was HUGE! With cardio equipment on the top floor and weights and CrossFit on the bottom floor. That day, I found the place I would spend most of my days in and meet most of my college friends. At this gym I discovered NPC bikini competitions, where for months, I would train two times a day, doing crazy amount of cardio, and eating the same foods all day every day. Through bikini competitions I learned dedication and hard work through long hours in the gym and eating a very strict diet, where I had to not only focus in the gym and in the kitchen, but also had to make hard decisions when in social situations. I competed in three NPC bikini competitions, where every show I improved physically, but deteriorated mentally. After my last show and a few emergency visits, I decided to take a break from competing. Although I enjoyed competition and pushing my body as far as it could go, I was burnt out and my body needed a break.

Fast forward to 2017, I graduated from the University of Nevada with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics. Looking for a new gym to join after graduating and still a little burnt out on lifting weights and cardio machines, I decided to give CrossFit a try. I tried out a few gyms, where I really learned I liked the hour class where the coach tells you what to do and you do just do it. Even if the workout is painful and not really that fun in the moment, the whole time you were working along side friends and acquaintances who had the same pain face as you and cheered you on throughout. Everyday I went to a CrossFit class I became more and more addicted to the new movements and techniques I learned, lifting heavy weights, moving fast, and doing that all with an inspiring community of people. I was also seeing good results in my figure, not even paying too much attention on what I was eating, which I liked.

Today, after 4 years of CrossFit and learning more about nutrition I am a Level One CrossFit Coach and a Level One Precision Nutrition Certified Nutrition Coach. While every day I learn more and more about each subject, both have affected my life in such positive ways. Coming from a young girl who just wanted abs and would do anything to get them; NEVER skipping a day in the gym, to a girl who loves coming in to the gym for a one hour CrossFit class and eating a balanced diet that works for me physically and mentally, I wouldn’t have the confidence both physically and mentally today if it wasn’t for growth. Today I am proud to say I have found balance. Knowing the unhealthy mindset I once had on food and my body image, I want to help others find what works for them to create a healthy lifestyle all together, while still eating what they want and looking/lifting/living the way they want! Today, more than ever health is so important, and it is up to you and only you to make sure you are as healthy as you can be! Whether you have weight loss, muscle gain, strength, or overall health goals, I will teach you how to get better nutrition out of the foods you eat, how much food is right for you, and finding that balance between nutrition, fitness, and life.
